| The Cinderella File
Everyone knows the fairytale of the Prince that appears on the white horse bearing the glass slipper to claim his true love and make the happy ending. But what of those who are never claimed? What about those whose bridal slipper is left to moulder and decay in the dust? Drawing upon the sources from European fairy tales, the gothic figure of Dickens Miss Haversham and perhaps a little personal experience, single shoes are created using individual warps in silk and linen, with diverse wefts of everything from silver, paper and human hair. These are presented in their own clear cases as a memorial to the very real tragedy of lost love. Many thanks to Daniel Milford-Cottam, Assistant Curator of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (Furniture, Textiles and Fashion) for his assistance with the research on this project.
